Due to the generosity and commitment of the local community, we are thrilled that Riverview has remained independent of big corporate interests and has succeeded in establishing extensive up-to-date infrastructure under the guidance of the Maungaturoto Charitable Community Trust. The recent completion of the much anticipated Secure Dementia Unit was a resounding success for our local community and presents a taste of the high standard that the completed Riverview complex will enjoy on completion.

Much of the Rest Home interior has been freshly refurbished. This original part of the building will be re-developed entirely into the new on-site Private Hospital during what will be Stage III of the final overall Development Plan for Riverview.

MCCT obtained council consent during 2024 to commence Stage II (as funds allow), which allows a brand new Rest Home extension wing complete with secluded outdoor garden area, new dining, lounge and Whanau areas, private clinical treatment space and 8 brand new rooms complete with ensuites to occupy the bare site immediately adjacent to the current Riverview main entrance.

We gratefully accept inquiries about donations on our Get Involved page. Look for ‘How you can help’ in our Donations section.

Our History

Introducing the legacy of Riverview, formerly known as Maungaturoto Rest Home, est. 1994

Riverview-Senior-Living-Maungaturoto-History-Donald-McKay-2000px.jpg

Riverview as we know it today was formed by the establishment of the Maungaturoto Community Charitable Trust Inc. (MCCT) in January 1994. An act of service to the community, a desire to attract a local medical provider to our rural town while being able to care for our seniors locally to eradicate the upheaval and social isolation of having to transition to bigger cities to access care and support during senior years culminated in the initial land purchase of the original village Post Office.

A repurposed Doctors Surgery opened on 1 June 1991. Sheer hard work and determination followed and Maungaturoto Rest Home proudly opened its doors to the public on the 16th of July 1994.

Under the Trust’s careful management and with unwavering and extensive support from the local community, Riverview has grown to offer 16 Rest Home rooms and 14 rooms in our Secure Dementia Unit.

The MCCT complex as a whole now includes 26 Independent living Units as well as a comprehensive Medical Centre and Physiotherapists clinic leased to Coast to Coast on the corner of our Hurndall Street site. Further development plans have been consented to extend the number of Rest Home beds as funds allow before commencing a new Private Hospital wing.

Our Governance

Introducing the talent behind the scenes

Riverview-Senior-Living-Maungaturoto-Landscapes-7-2000px.JPG

Riverview is a unique locally-owned independent living and supported care complex for seniors, which to this day remains independent from any corporate interests. Set up in 1994 as a charitable trust, MCCT and its governing Board carefully balance the demands of the Trust vision: providing independent living and high quality supported living and care for seniors in our community while operating in a manner that is ethical, transparent and financially viable, though not for profit. As the responsibility of running the Trust is significant, particularly in these challenging socio-economic times genuine appreciation is bestowed upon the members of the Board who dedicate considerable time, energy and donate a wide variety of skills and expertise in accordance with the original Trust vision to ensure the original dream for our community is realised.
